Following a rigorous auditing process, GeoPark has obtained the renewal of the certification of its Environmental Management System (EMS) for all its operations in Colombia in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001:2015. The certification is valid through August 2023.
The EMS certification by the ISO 14001 international standard shapes GeoPark’s environmental management, and allows the company to demonstrate its commitment to caring for the environment through the responsible management of the environmental risks associated with oil exploration and production activities in Colombia.
GeoPark and the Comahue Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) held the fourth event of a cycle of professional presentations on Friday, September 11. The activity was headed by GeoPark Petroleum Engineer Sofía Malamud, who addressed the topic of “Monitoring and supervision in fields with secondary recovery” to an audience of 70.
GeoPark General Director Ms. Marcela Vaca is one of the 50 most powerful women in Colombia, according to a list in the latest edition of Forbes magazine that acknowledges women who stand out in Colombia because of their relevance, influence and leadership.
The list of most powerful women was made by a jury of experts and members of the magazines editorial team. Criteria used in the judging included leadership impact, the financial results and the general success of the companies they lead, their influence on public opinion and the contribution they have made to the sectors they represent and to society in general.
Thanks to the effort, trust and commitment of leaders of the Red Cross and Civil Defense, the previous and current municipal administrations of Villanueva and the support of GeoPark, the municipality opened two headquarters for rescue organizations that will benefit more than 45,000 people from the region. In this 231 m² complex, located at Transversal 1 7-67 in Villanueva, the Red Cross and Civil Defense will be able to store and access their emergency equipment, and will also be able to train the people in their work groups.
This public-private partnership strengthens the response capacity of relief agencies, whose effective and timely action in emergencies is vital to ensure the well-being of the community.
The partnership between GeoPark and the Colombia Somos Todos, James Rodriguez Foundation allowed 200 children and young people from Tauramena and Villanueva to enhance their social skills through recreation and sports. For two consecutive years, this initiative supported the youngest neighbors of the Llanos 34 block in setting life goals through high-performance sports training processes.
Since 2018, this partnership fostered inclusive environments and spaces that allow children between the ages of 5 and 14 to make good use of their free time and enhance their all-round growth. Thanks to the implementation of innovative methodologies, the children received training on issues related to leadership, mental strength, healthy use of free time, and soccer, among others. The activities carried out within the framework of this partnership contributed to improving school performance, physical performance and interpersonal relationships of the youngest neighbors of the Llanos 34 block.
GeoPark continues to be committed to the well-being of its neighbors in the Llanos 34 block during the health emergency, and together with the Villanueva Mayor’s Office has carried out a prevention campaign in the Caribayona area of the municipality, in the south of Casanare department.
For more than six hours, a team of health professionals, civil servants and GeoPark professionals trained more than 700 Caribayona inhabitants in the most effective measures for preventing the spread of COVID-19. More than 700 units of alcohol gel and 2,000 face masks were distributed to promote self-care among the company’s neighbors.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, GeoPark has donated more than 2,000 aid parcels, benefitting nearly 600 Casanare families. The Company will continue to cooperate with local authorities to overcome this health emergency, demonstrating its commitment to the care and integrity of all its workers and neighbors.
In line with its mission to “Create Value and Give Back” GeoPark delivered another online training session aimed mainly at Petroleum Engineering students at the National University of Comahue in Neuquen province, active members of the SPE Student Chapter and other special guests who joined the video call. The activity brought together more than 150 students and professionals from different universities and countries in Latin America, who learned how GeoPark carries out its operations.

Bureau Veritas, a leading certification and inspection provider, has awarded its Safeguard label to the Llanos 34 block in Casanare and Platanillo block in Putumayo, which recognizes the best practices and highest standards in biosecurity and ensures the widespread implementation of protocols designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in GeoPark’s operations in Colombia.
