Putumayo – Through its subsidiary La nueva Amerisur and with the leadership of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF), GeoPark has started to deliver furniture, pedagogical materials, audiovisual equipment, appliances, kitchen and cleaning equipment and underwear to 39 Child Development Centers (CDI) in Putumayo department to reinforce learning environments and promote children’s integral development.

The initiative is part of the PDET Works for Taxes mechanism and is developed in conjunction with the ICBF and the ART territorial development agency, and will benefit more than 3,300 children from nine municipalities in Putumayo. Four deliveries have been made to two CDIs in Puerto Guzman and two in Puerto Asis to date, and all deliveries are expected to be completed in the first half of the year.

“We believe that education is fundamental in the construction of a better society, as it promotes equal opportunities and strengthens the integral development of children in our country,” GeoPark’s Nature and Neighbors Corporate Director Norma Sanchez said. “We recognize that they are the protagonists of our future, and through this initiative public and private sectors are joining forces to contribute to the consolidation of a more just, equitable and inclusive society in the long term.”

“I really want to thank private enterprise for generating development for the country,” said Lina Arbelaez, general director of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare. “With their contribution of delivering equipment to the Child Development Centers, vulnerable children in Putumayo will have the opportunity to have instruments and materials essential for their cognitive, motor and socio-emotional development, which is transcendental in the rest of their lives.”

This joint work with national and local institutions is an opportunity for GeoPark to continue materializing its commitment to fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring that children and adolescents can access care services that contribute to their integral development.

GeoPark will continue efforts to develop strategic alliances that contribute to the sustainable development of the territories it operates in.
