Punta Arenas, Chile – On International Firefighters Day independent Latin American oil and gas exploration, operation and consolidation company GeoPark donated a state-of-the-art industrial emergency response truck to the Punta Arenas Fire Department. With 4×4 drive and advanced technology, the truck significantly reinforces the fleet of emergency response vehicles in the region.

The truck was presented at the signing of a donation agreement at the headquarters of Punta Arenas’ Third Fire Company, the Bomba Alemana. Authorities such as the Superintendent of the Fire Department, the Deputy Superintendent, Fire Department Operational Commanders, and regional authorities of GeoPark.

“We are very grateful for GeoPark’s donation. This vehicle is very important for our institution because in addition to providing us with a unique unit, it will allow us to continue preparing ourselves to respond to any type of contingency and continue to help the community,” Fire Department Deputy Superintendent Jorge Otaiza Santana said at the ceremony.

“Part of our commitment as a company is to be able to accompany and support institutions that work for the benefit of the community,” GeoPark’s Chile Asset Manager Francisco Gallardo said, thanking the Fire Department for the remarkable work it does every day. “The Fire Department is a very prestigious organization that makes us Magallanes people proud. Every day and in each response, its members risk their lives for other people,” he said.

About the truck

The red Freightliner M2 106 truck is sophisticated and in perfect condition, and has 4×4 drive, automatic transmission and a 300 HP engine. Equipped with a 1,250 GPM Hale pump and water and foam tanks, it has air conditioning, electric mirrors, ABS brakes, radio, turbo, steps, adjustable steering wheel and a windscreen with sun shields.

Institutional synergy

As part of the agreement signed, the Fire Department will assist GeoPark in developing emergency response training.

In this area, together with San Gregorio municipality GeoPark has already been carrying out emergency training for local people that includes the correct use of fire extinguishers and CPR techniques. The training also includes activities with the Villa Punta Delgada school and teachers, among other institutions.

“As a Municipality we are very happy with the partnership we have made with GeoPark since it has allowed us to train our staff as well as our neighbors. Undoubtedly, the Company has become a strategic partner for us, as it has allowed us to carry out various activities for the community, with learning that benefits all inhabitants,” San Gregorio Mayor Jeanette Andrade said about the training.

With these activities GeoPark continues to create and strengthen strategic partnerships that contribute to the sustainable development of the territories it operates in, Francisco Gallardo said.
