GeoPark maintains social distancing from communities at the Morona project

The social distancing measures were implemented on March 15 in line with Government directives and Company policy.

Lima, Peru – GeoPark, the operator of the Morona Project in the Morona district, Datem del Marañón (Loreto), informs that:

• Since March 15 2020, in line with instructions from the Company’s Socioenvironmental Department and in accordance with Supreme Decree N°044-PCM-2020 of the Government of Peru, no GeoPark employee has visited, met or been in physical contact with anyone in the communities in the areas of direct or indirect influence of the Morona Project, in order to guarantee the health and welfare of the indigenous populations in these areas.
• On the same date, GeoPark reduced its activities to a minimum and confined company personnel to the Morona Camp, in line with the obligatory self-isolation.
• GeoPark has been supporting health authorities and local communities by broadcasting relevant information to prevent COVID-19 contagion.

GeoPark has implemented all the preventative measures established by the World Health Organization and ordered by health authorities in the countries and regions in which it is present, in line with its permanent commitment to the protection and integrity of all its neighbors.

Jointly operated by GeoPark and Petroperu, the Morona Project is in Peru’s Loreto department. The project uses a new model of oil development that privileges the participation of resident indigenous communities in the area of influence, valuing their opinions and including them in social, environmental and operational management plans. In its first stage the Morona Project will produce 10,000 boepd, equivalent to one quarter of Peru’s current oil production, and will generate important development opportunities at local, regional and national levels.
