Casanare, Colombia – To help meet Colombia’s national reforestation goal of planting 180 million trees by 2022, GeoPark planted more than 4,400 saplings in the municipalities of Tauramena and Villanueva in Casanare department.

Together with the Orinoquia Regional Autonomous Corporation (Corporinoquia), Tauramena and Villanueva municipalities and the Orinoquia Biodiversa Foundation (FOB), GeoPark organized tree-planting days in October and November in which dozens of people from public authorities, neighboring communities, partners and GeoPark staff took part. Pooling their efforts, the participants reforested over two hectares in the El Paraiso and Refocosta landholdings in the south of the department.

“We are pleased to contribute to the national reforestation goal and to develop initiatives that allow us to generate long-term value in our areas of operation,” GeoPark Environmental Manager Fabiola Pena said. “At GeoPark we will continue to promote this kind of institutional partnerships, as we believe that they will help us in our goal of consolidating a more sustainable environment,” she added.

This project is another step in the Company’s firm commitment help meet the 2030 Agenda, contributing with the help of its partners and neighbors to the emissions reduction goals established by the different countries it operates in.
