Approved by our executive team, our Environmental Commitment aligns with our Sustainability Framework and forms the foundation of our work. It defines our principles for acting responsibly on key sustainability issues such as water and biodiversity. It includes goals, metrics and responsibilities for regulatory compliance and the continuous improvement of our environmental performance.
In Colombia, our Environmental Management System (EMS) – which has ISO 14001:2015 certification through August 2026 – guides our management and enables us to identify, prioritize and manage environmental risks. We offer our employees awareness, learning and training programs on the efficient use of natural resources and compliance with environmental regulations, based on the framework of our Environmental Commitment.
GeoPark works to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to the challenges of climate change. To continue identifying and reducing our emissions, we have developed greater internal capacities and strengthened climate governance to make responsible decisions. This includes actions to prevent impacts, incorporate climate criteria into our investments, and adapt to extreme weather phenomena or regulatory transitions that affect our territories and operations.
Protecting biodiversity and using water efficiently are part of our operational planning and execution. Working together with communities, experts and authorities, we develop strategies to protect species, restore ecosystems and reduce impacts in sensitive areas. We monitor our water footprint and prioritize sustainable practices to preserve ecosystems and ensure water availability for future generations.
Our Circular Economy Strategic Plan facilitates a transition towards increasingly efficient, regenerative and responsible processes. Aligning with our Sustainability Framework, the Circular Economy enables climate action and the responsible management of water and biodiversity. This approach results in cleaner operations with a lower environmental impact, and has three lines of action:
As part of GeoPark’s Commitment to Ethics and Transparency , we facilitate public access to environmental information about our projects. All our Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), prepared within Colombia’s environmental licensing framework, are available at our Environmental Transparency Portal. This strengthens trust, traceability and informed participation by enabling the review of approved studies and their modifications, and other documents.
Each project at GeoPark begins with a detailed assessment of potential social, economic, and environmental impacts, analysis that is fundamental in our Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and the formulation of strategies to prevent, mitigate or offset impacts. This demonstrates our strong commitment to responsible operation and regulatory compliance.
