Go Back

GeoPark has detailed the outcomes of its ongoing commitment to strengthen education in Casanare. Its initiatives include improvements to school infrastructure, teacher training, facilitating access to higher education, and providing learningresources. These efforts are part of GeoPark’s socio-environmental investment strategy, which seeks to promote better living standards and greater opportunities for its neighboring communities, consistent with the Company’s purpose of Creating Value and Giving Back.

GeoPark has committed more than 21 billion pesos in 2025 to support educational initiatives in the territories where it operates, consolidating a comprehensive vision that emphasizes reinforcing local capacities and promoting sustainable development opportunities. This support aligns with the recently established partnership between the Government of Casanare and GeoPark, which is designed to enhance rural education and school attendance in the department.

Through the Works for Taxes mechanism, the Company invested over 5.8 billion pesos in Hato Corozal and La Salina to strengthen 14 rural schools through providing supplies and equipment, including musical instruments to promote cultural identity, sports equipment to promote healthy habits and teamwork, school furniture to improve learning conditions, and pedagogical support processes for teachers. More than 4,500 students and members of the educational community in rural areas of the department benefit from the initiative.

In Tauramena, a partnership with the Escuela Nueva Volvamos a la Gente Foundation has improved the learning opportunities of more than 520 children in seven rural schools through implementing active and collaborative methodologies, enhancing teacher leadership and the greater incorporation of families into the learning process. GeoPark also provided 7,000 study kits in Casanare, Meta and Putumayo to support continued school attendance in rural communities.

To facilitate access to higher education, GeoPark offers the University Scholarship Program for Women in Science and Engineering, which since 2014 has benefited 14 young women in Latin America, of whom six are from Colombia and three have already graduated.

GeoPark also has an agreement with the National Open and Distance University (UNAD) that currently allows 20 young people from Casanare to study in different professions, expanding higher education opportunities in the department.

When we invest in rural education, we invest in the future of the regions. Our socio-environmental investment strategy seeks to expand local capacities and open opportunities that last over time. For GeoPark, that is a way to Create Value and Give Back, GeoPark’s Director of Nature and NeighborsAnibal Fernandez de Soto said.

GeoPark will continue to strengthen public-private partnerships aimed at sustainable territorial development and the generation of educational opportunities for the communities where it operates.
