GeoPark, in partnership with Parex, has officially completed the resurfacing of the Vara-Soceagro road, a strategic rural connectivity project in Villanueva, Casanare. A ‘Community Benefit Project’ within GeoPark’s socio-environmental investment area, the resurfacing facilitates community access to goods, services and markets in southern Casanare, boosting local productive activities.GeoPark and Parex made a voluntary investment of more than 14 billion pesos to resurface 17.5 km of road. Local company Maboh worked for almost a year on the project, which is critically important to the mobility and economic activities of hundreds of rural families.The Governor of Casanare, Cesar Ortiz Zorro, and the Mayor of Tauramena, Javier Alvarez, attended the opening ceremony along with their respective teams, as well as community leaders and local business representatives. The leaders highlighted the transformative nature of the road and its direct impact on the wellbeing of rural communities. Delivering the project shows how joint work between institutions, business and citizens closes development gaps and strengthens territorial development.“This is a concrete example of how partnerships between the community, authorities and the private sector can create lasting works that transform.
