Our social and environmental management in Ecuador during the first semester of 2024

With enthusiasm and commitment, we have worked closely with neighbors, local authorities and institutions in Sucumbios in the first semester of the year to strengthen our relationship of Good Neighborliness

Being a Good Neighbor means continuous dialogue, developing projects that benefit whole communities, respecting mutual rights, and approaching challenges constructively. We know that this way of working has enabled us to successfully advance different initiatives that contribute to sustainable development in communities.

To share information about our dialogue management, our local hiring and the projects through which we deliver on our commitment to create and share prosperity in communities, we have published a new edition of the ‘Good News Good Neighbors’ newsletter.

The newsletter summarizes our work in the first semester of 2024 in the focal areas of our socio-environmental investment in Ecuador.

1. Welfare and quality of life

• We joined CERES, Ecuador’s largest network of organizations committed to social responsibility and sustainable development.
• Infrastructure improvements, such as strengthening the bridge over the River Shushufindi, supporting transport solutions for our neighboring communities.

2. Economic and productive development

• 90% of workers on our operations are local.
• We have signed more than 60 contracts for goods and services with local companies

3. Promoting education, culture and sport

• Participation of 300 students in a Shushufindi Fire Department Open Day to provide information on preventing emergencies.
• Donating sports equipment to the Club Oriental de Shushufindi, supporting its 150 members.

4. Institutional strengthening

• We helped secure legal status for the La Pantera and Tahuantinsuyo communities, enabling them to participate in the allocation of resources.
• We supported the registration of the Community Governing Council of the Siona Orahueaya indigenous community.

5. Comprehensive water management

• Calculation of our Water Footprint under NTC-ISO 14046:2017 methodology, underscoring our commitment to sustainability.
• Taking part in Wetlands Day celebrations, promoting the conservation of Ramsar sites in the Limoncocha Biological Reserve.

6. Biodiversity protection

• We held a learning day to increase biodiversity knowledge, including the protection of endangered species such as the harpy eagle and the black caiman.
• We helped develop community environmental supervision offices to verify at first hand the fulfilment of the Environmental Management Plan.
