GeoPark takes first steps to return to Vaca Muerta
15/09/2025 – Local press picked up on a regulatory statement from GeoPark Argentina that it has accepted a $100 million capital contribution from GeoPark Colombia, and reported that GeoPark could be taking first steps in its strategy to return to Vaca Muerta. GeoPark “is said to be in negotiations with local partners to participate in production blocks in the Neuquen Basin.”

August oil exports grow 47%
15/09/2025 – Argentina’s oil exports increased 47% year-on-year to $689 million in August 2025, when oil was the second-largest export category with 8.8% of the total. Oil exports in the year to August increased 19% from the same period of 2024 to $4.28 billion in 2025. Fuel and energy accounted for 97% of exports from Neuquen province. Nationwide, total exports increased 16% to $7.8 billion and imports increased 32% to $6.46 billion in August 2025.
August fracking increases 20%
02/09/2025 – Fracking activity in Neuquen increased 20% from July to 2,163 stages in August, rebounding after month-on-month declines in June and July. YPF accounted for over 50% of the stages with 1,105, followed by Vista (426), Pluspetrol (216), Pan American Energy (154), Shell (136), and Pampa Energia (126).
Neuquen sets new production records in July
27/08/2025 – Neuquen province produced more than 500,000 bopd for the first time ever in July when production of both oil and gas set new records. Oil production of 529,291 bopd was up 6.56% from June and 28% from July 2024, while January-July production increased 21.5% from the same period of 2024.
Government approves MKII LNG exports
21/08/2025 – The Energy Department has authorized unrestricted LNG exports for 30 years from September 1, 2028, from the MKII FLNG vessel leased to Southern Energy. MKII is the second FLNG vessel in the Argentina LNG project that will export 6 million metric tons a year of LNG, supplied directly from Vaca Muerta through a new dedicated pipeline.
Argentina increased first semester oil exports by 25% from 2024 to $3.18 billion in 1H2025
04/08/2025 – Oil was the country’s third-largest goods export product. Total exports increased 4% to $39.8 billion, imports increased 34.6% to $36.9 billion, and the trade surplus was $2.79 billion.
