Leading Latin American oil exploration and production company GeoPark applauds the Colombian Government’s creation of the Serrania de Manacacias National Natural Park.

As a company committed to the conservation of strategic ecosystems and caring for Colombia’s biodiversity, GeoPark appreciates its opportunity to participate in the consolidation of the new National Park through the process of donating more than 1,600 hectares, making the Company one of the first to contribute in this way within the framework of fulfilling its environmental responsibilities.

The new protected area in Meta department is Colombia’s sixty-first National Park, and reflects a successful partnership between the public and private sector to conserve the country’s strategic ecosystems.

“We congratulate the National Government and civil society organizations for this national park being declared, which is a decisive step in the hydrological connection of the Andean and Orinoquia regions,” GeoPark Nature and Neighbors manager Aníbal Fernández de Soto said. “At GeoPark we are very proud to have participated in this milestone through donating thousands of hectares that are now part of Colombia’s natural heritage.”

Showing its commitment to the preservation of strategic ecosystems and Colombia’s biodiversity, GeoPark has also donated over 2,000 hectares to the National System of Protected Areas:

• In 2018, the Company participated in the purchase of 134 hectares and their donation to the Chingaza National Natural Park, a key part of protecting the ecosystem services provided by this protected area (More information).

• In 2019 GeoPark purchased and donated 1,968 hectares to the municipality of Paz de Ariporo in Casanare. The land was categorized as a Civil Society Natural Reserve and is part of the National System of Protected Areas (More information).

The Company will continue its commitment to participating in strategic projects through which it can contribute to the conservation of Colombia’s natural wealth and thus contribute to Government goals of stopping deforestation.
