To continue creating a legacy of prosperity through promoting sustainable territorial development in the regions where GeoPark operates, the Company worked together with neighboring communities, local authorities and institutions throughout 2023.

GeoPark managed partnerships and investments in eight socio-environmental areas to consolidate and strengthen its good neighborly relationship through close, proactive and open dialogue. Highlights from 2023 include:

Promoting quality of life in neighboring communities

  • Providing 2,200 medical services in health drives in Putumayo, Meta and Casanare departments together with the Colombian Civil Air Patrol.
  • Donating kitchen equipment to 39 Child Development Centers (CDI) in Putumayo department and 168 educational institution canteens in Puerto Guzmán as part of the Works for Taxes mechanism, supported by the Territory Renewal Agency.
  • Improving infrastructure of neighbors’ homes in Ecuador and Colombia.
  • Strengthening dialogue and active participation by opening two Cuéntame -grievance mechanism- offices in Casanare and Meta departments.

Generating programs and partnerships to contribute to the preservation of the environment

  • Advancing the implementation of the Company’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction strategy. GeoPark expects to reduce emissions by 35-40% by 2025 and 40-60% by 2030, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050.
  • Training more than 400 residents in Putumayo, Casanare, Meta in Colombia and Shushufindi in Ecuador on environmental issues to strengthen their knowledge and practices in natural resource protection.
  • Holding training workshops for neighboring communities on biodiversity, climate change, ecosystem services, environmental investment of 1%, in partnership with the Association of Scholars of Casanare and within the framework of the “Weaving Knowledge” program.
  • Rescue and relocation of more than 5.3 million animals in Casanare, including fish, reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans and birds.

Contributing to the construction of a better future in the territories through the promotion of education

  • Assisting the professional training of 20 young people from Casanare through giving university scholarships that cover 100% of their tuition fees at the National Open and Distance University (UNAD).
  • Supporting the sports training of more than 200 boys and girls in Casanare and Shushufindi in local sports clubs.
  • Contributing to music teaching and training of more than 100 children and young people in partnership with the Batuta National Foundation in Puerto Asís.
  • Helping strengthen community leadership through training 44 leaders from Putumayo and Shushufindi in skills including dialogue, teamwork and communication.

Developing spaces for open dialogue and citizen participation

  • Welcoming the participation of more than 800 people, in person and online, in the Environmental Public Hearing of the Bienparado Development Area, an exercise of continuous and transparent dialogue convened by the National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA).
  • Holding three Meetings for Transparency in Casanare and Putumayo. The meetings are spaces for dialogue, discussion and feedback on our management, in which community leaders and representatives of municipal authorities participate.
