Villanueva, Casanare. – To promote quality education and to ensure the continuity of the school education for children studying from home, GeoPark has donated more than 300 tablets to primary and secondary students of the four public educational institutions in Villanueva in the south of Casanare department.

The project is part of the Community Benefit Program (PBC) that GeoPark agreed with the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH) and local authorities as the operator of the Llanos 87 block, which is currently in the environmental licensing stage. The beneficiaries were selected based on criteria defined by municipal authorities, which considered aspects such as being part of a family in groups A or B in the SISBEN means-testing instrument and being enrolled in an official educational institution.

“We know that education is one of the fundamental pillars to guarantee children a future with opportunities to make their dreams of social progress come true,” GeoPark Neighbor Relations Leader Jenny Barbosa said. “This is a key factor in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. This is why, at this moment of the pandemic, we are redoubling our efforts. This donation to Villanueva students is another example of our commitment to achieve that goal,” she continued.

Since the United Nations set the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), GeoPark has aligned its socio-environmental projects to promote the fulfillment of these goals and contribute to closing gaps. GeoPark donating the tablets contributes to SDG 4, by contributing to the promotion of inclusive, equitable and quality education and the generation of learning opportunities for all.
