GeoPark, a leading independent Latin American oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Brazil, presents its latest sustainability report, the 2002 SPEED/ESG Report. In the pages of this Report, the Company shares the progress of its environmental, social and governance management. 

“Sustainability is a fundamental pillar to ensure our long-term competitiveness,” GeoPark Strategy, Sustainability and Legal Director Mónica Jiménez said. “The SPEED/ESG Report reflects the focused work of our team in 2022 on creating value for all our stakeholders, based on robust governance, a clear vision to minimize the environmental footprint of operations, recognition of the need to actively participate in the energy transition, and a goal of creating value in the territories we operate in.” 

The 2022 SPEED/ESG Report was written with reference to Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines, with indicators from the sustainability reporting guide of the World Oil and Gas Industry Association to Promote Environmental and Social Performance (IPIECA) and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB). This year, the information in the Report was independently verified by audit firm EY Spain. 

Highlights of GeoPark’s 2022 sustainability management described in the Report include: 

Environmental 

  • Scope 1 and 2 emission intensity of 12.1 KG CO2 e/boe; 34.2% less than 2021 
  • Energy intensity index of 56.1KWH/boe produced; 24% down on 2021 
  • >34,000 trees planted and donated in Colombia 
  • No fines or environmental penalties for the Company’s operations 

Social 

  • 50% of the executive team and 37% of employees are women 
  • US$5.1 million in social investment; 88% of which is in rural areas 
  • >120,000 beneficiaries of social programs 
  • >3,000 job opportunities created in the value chain  

Governance 

  • Creating the SPEED Committee on the Board of Directors, the highest-level body for sustainability decision-making 
  • Creating the Strategy, Sustainability and Legal Department, to take charge of GeoPark’s sustainability management 
  • Sylvia Escovar is the independent chair of the Board of Directors
