Media Room >GeoPark reduces carbon intensity 35%, reaches five-year decarbonization goalBogotá, ColombiaMarch 17, 2026 Through energy efficiency measures, methane management and access to cleaner energy, GeoPark reduced its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions intensity by 35% between 2020 and 2025, from 14.3 kg of CO2e/boe to 9.3 kg of CO2e/boe.Initiatives such as connecting Llanos 34 to Colombia’s national grid to access clean energy sources, starting operations of a 10MW solar plant and implementing an intensive methane leak detection and repair program helped reduce the Company’s environmental footprint, generated savings of around US$70 million, and increased the reliability of electricity supply to over 99% in 2025.This work has enabled GeoPark to reduce methane emissions by 86% over the past five years. The results were confirmed in December 2025 when after reviewing 30 facilities and 60 kilometers of pipelines, independent emissions management company InsightM1 concluded that there are zero significant methane leaks in GeoPark’s operations in Colombia (Meta and Casanare).Felipe Bayon, GeoPark’s CEO, said: “Producing energy efficiently and with a lower carbon footprint is possible, and GeoPark is showing that. We supply low-carbon intensity barrels to the energy basket of countries like Colombia, which need to guarantee energy security while meeting their climate goals. This achievement reflects our team’s ability to execute efficient and integral projects that create real and sustainable value for our stakeholders and for the countries we operate in.”The emissions reduction is part of the decarbonization plan that GeoPark announced in November 2021, and reflects the Company’s commitment to continue developing increasingly efficient operations with a lower carbon footprint in all the countries where it operates.1 Insight M is a company founded in 2014 that specializes in methane emissions management for the energy industry.
