GeoPark is supporting the consolidation of the largest community beekeeping project in Casanare, in which 26 rural families from Villanueva are taking part. The initiative is part of a social investment project in the Llanos 87 block that GeoPark operates, and was carried out in partnership with APIFARMA, a family business of beekeepers and herbologists from Villanueva. It seeks to create economic and productive development opportunities in the department.

GeoPark and APIFARMA installed 180 hives in 6 production units in La Libertad village. Necessary materials for the management of the units have also been provided, and there will be continuous accompaniment to the participating families through training sessions in bee cultivation techniques, and the creation and marketing of products.

“We are proud to contribute to the economic and productive development of Villanueva through implementing projects which, in addition to representing a source of income and work for our neighboring families, generate opportunities for progress and well-being,” GeoPark Neighbor Relations manager Diego Morales said.

“Beekeeping has enormous potential for the economy of Villanueva. Thanks to this project, the beneficiary families in charge of managing the hives have already begun to market their products,” APIFARMA deputy manager Felipe Puentes said. “Promoting this type of project is of vital importance to contribute to the development of the territory.”

Implementing this kind of project reaffirms GeoPark’s commitment to promoting the sustainable development of the territories it operates in. The Company will continue to work hand in hand with communities and institutional partners to continue promoting initiatives that contribute to the progress of its neighbors.
