On International Women’s Day GeoPark underlines its Commitment to Gender Equality - GeoPark
Go Back

GeoPark continues to close gender gaps in the workplace and in the areas where it operates, and on International Women’s Day underlines its commitment to gender equality by sharing the progress it has made in the last year.

Our People

Since it was founded, GeoPark has recognized the importance of having a non-discriminatory work environment that promotes the development of all members of its team. That vision has helped GeoPark create a diverse group that increasingly represents women at all levels. Some figures that prove it follow:

  • Two women leaders are part of GeoPark’s Board of Directors and one of them -Sylvia Escovar- chairs it.
  • 50% of GeoPark’s leadership team are women.
  • 37% of GeoPark employees are women.
  • 40% of promotions in 2022 were to women.
  • 46% of new hires in 2022 were women.

GeoPark furthermore has a training and awareness plan to promote knowledge about the role of each individual in building more equitable societies. Supported by experts, in 2022 GeoPark organized training sessions to identify unconscious biases and raise team awareness of the importance of gender equality in the workplace.

To constantly evaluate performance and promote a culture of transparency and continuous improvement, the Company submits its gender indicators to evaluation and monitoring mechanisms in Colombia and internationally:

  • Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI): For the second consecutive year, GeoPark is part of the GEI, which measures publicly traded companies on their results and on the scope of their reporting of gender-related metrics.
  • Equipares: In 2021, GeoPark received the Equipares Silver Award that recognizes its commitment to closing gender gaps. Colombia’s Ministry of Labor made the award after evaluating the successful implementation of the Gender Equality Management System (SGIG).
  • PAR Ranking: Since 2021 GeoPark has participated in this ranking headed by the Aequales organization to know the status of its gender-equality policies and processes.

 Our Communities

GeoPark is committed to promoting sustainable development in the areas it operates in. Aware of gender gaps, the Company has designed programs to contribute to training young women in the area of influence of its activities.

  • University Scholarship Program for Women in Science and Engineering: Since 2014, GeoPark has run this program through which it supports the university education of young women from local communities in STEM courses at top-level institutions. By end-2022, 12 young women had won scholarships under this program.
  • Educating Talents Program: Since 2022 the Company has had a program focused on providing first job opportunities to young people in Colombia. During the first year of Educando Talentos, five women did their work placement and five women had their first work experience in GeoPark.

In 2023, the Company will continue working to consolidate increasingly fair and inclusive work environments, contributing to closing gaps that limit the development of girls and adolescent and adult women in the areas it operates in.
